Sr Girls Volleyball Success at UBC Tournament
The Jays had a great weekend at UBC on Sept 18-19. They came home with the bronze medal at one of the top tournaments in the Province playing 4A schools.
On Friday we finished 2nd in our pool.
- Dover Bay 2-0
- Walnut Grove 1-1 (Fourth in 4A provincials last year)
- St Patricks 2-0
Saturday in the round of 16 we faced South Delta. They were the defending champions, the 4A provincial champions from last year, and they had handled everyone easily on Friday. We lost the first set but managed to win in the 3rd set 15-12, for a huge upset.
In the quarter final we beat KSS, 2-0. This was our best game of the tournament.
The semi-final was against OKM, we nearly had it but ended up losing 16-14 in the third. OKM would go on to win the tournament.
The Bronze medal game was against Claremont, another 4A school, and we beat them 2-0, fairly convincingly. Everyone was super tired at that point but our girls rebounded well after the semi.
It was so fun to be in the thick of it, playing in a big game at the War Memorial gym. Shaping up to be an exciting season but this will be tough to top!
