Career Education Field Trips

Font Size: A+ A- Reset

Both Careers 9 and Career Life Education (CLE) 10 are mandatory courses offered “outside the timetable” at JL Jackson.  We do this on purpose so that students can have another elective in their schedule.  As counsellors, we “steal” time from other classes throughout the year to offer an in-house opportunity to work on assignments.  Moreover, CLE 10 is a course all BC students must pass in order to graduate.

History tells us that many adults have said, “I wish I knew about that career when I was in high school.”  Therefore, we strongly believe in exposure, exposure, exposure to various opportunities for students to engage in guest speakers (both virtual and in-person), otherwise known as “spotlights” as well as field trips.  We prepare field trip permission forms so that parents/guardians understand their teen will be missing regular class time to attend such functions.

We aim to offer as many of these opportunities as possible free of charge.  Some are geared toward both Grade 9s and 10s, while other are only suitable for our 10s.  Furthermore, we ask that, in particular, all Grade 10s attend one of these events per semester. This is because students in Grade 10 are now on the Graduation Path and are earning four (4) credits for their CLE 10 course.

Upcoming field trips/spotlights are announced over the PA once a week, or posted outside the Jackson Career Centre, or emailed home to each student as well as the registered guardian email address.  Grade 10 students can also download the MS Teams App and have notifications turned on to read applicable posts.
