English First Peoples 10 Classes visit Kekuli Huts
Last week, two of our English First Peoples 10 classes visited the Kekuli Huts located at the Qualikwa RV Park in Enderby. During the visit Knowledge Keeper John Jones shared Indigenous stories in the Kekuli Hut with a warm fire lit while Knowledge Keeper Dodie Jones shared the Medicine Wheel teachings, followed by each student making their own medicine bag pouch. Students also enjoyed playing Indigenous games from Inuit and Metis culture (knobby ball, hoop and arrow hunting game, rabbit hunt game, and other various games) before enjoying a fantastic lunch provided by the Shuswap Food Action/Feeding Futures program. To finish off the day, Quilakwa put on a scavenger hunt for students to learn about Splatsin culture which is listed on information boards around the RV park. Thank you to Fawn Herrington (Indigenous Education Worker), John Jones, Dodie Jones, and the staff at Quilakwa RV Park for organizing this opportunity for our students!
